In 2016 Western Chances welcomed our very first alumni board members. One of those new recruits, Celia Tran, received her first scholarship from Western Chances in 2007, and has never looked back.

A former Victoria University student, Celia Tran is currently the Communications and Project Officer at the Department of Premier and Finance.

As an executive member of the Vietnamese Community in Australia (Vic), an Advisory board member of the Dual Identity Leadership Program, Victorian Ambassador to MYAN Australia and most recently as part of the Australian Human Rights Commission mentoring program - Celia gives tirelessly to the community and is dedicated to making the world a better place.

And Celia’s efforts have not gone unnoticed. In 2015 she won the Victorian Multicultural Commission Ambassador Award for Multicultural Excellence and in 2016 she won both the 2016 Australia Day Maribyrnong City Council Youth Leadership Award and the 2016 Premier’s Volunteer of the Year, Dame Elisabeth Murdoch Award.

When asked why Celia joined the Western Chances Board, she says;

“Born and raised in the West and having experienced the challenges that young people face first hand - I am passionate about and committed to ensuring that young people and communities are given opportunities to fulfill their potential.”
