Scholarship recipient breaks new ground in Australian TV

Another Western Chances alumnus is making excellent inroads into his chosen career in the film and television industry. Ez Eldin Deng was recently engaged as the cultural consultant for the upcoming SBS production of ‘Sunshine’, starring Anthony La Paglia and Melanie Lynskey.

Scholarship recipient breaks new ground in Australian TV

Ez Eldin Deng is a South Sudanese film and music video director, producer, and writer. He has directed and produced numerous music videos which have reached millions of views in total on YouTube. Deng first arrived in Melbourne, Australia in 2004 with his family and to this day, Melbourne is still his home as he continues to break new grounds in Australia's film and television industry.

The fictional show 'Sunshine' follows Jacob Garang (Wally Elnour), a South Sudanese-Australian teenager hoping to make it as a basketball player, along with teammates Deng, Santino and Dazzler. He ropes a retired NBA player into coaching their team, but things get complicated when Santino (Autiak Aweteek) is implicated in the violent assault of a teenage girl.

He is also a program mentor for the Be-A-Brother Program aimed at the Sudanese Community and wrote and produced the "Be-A-Brother" short film.
