As a part of our ongoing support for alumni and recipients Western Chances held its second leadership workshop. The workshop was hosted by our wonderful supporters from Westpac at the Victorian head office in Collins Street. Michael ‘Muddy’ Waters, Head of Corporate Banking Victoria and SA spoke to our young people about his career journey, Westpac’s commitment to corporate social responsibility and his thoughts on what it means to be a great leader.

The workshop was facilitated by Craig Perrett from Act3. We are extremely grateful to Craig, Michael and Westpac for their ongoing commitment Western Chances.

Western Chances Scholarship recipient, James Holland, wrote about his experience:

In October, nine lucky Western Chances Scholarship recipients, including myself, participated in a leadership and career planning workshop at Westpac’s headquarters in Melbourne’s CBD. The facilitator, Craig Perrett, has advised CEOs and many other top community figures on management strategies for more than twenty years. In the session, we considered what distinguishes great leaders and how we can use our values to benefit our local communities and build our careers. In addition to Craig’s shrewd insights, I personally benefited from listening to the other scholarship recipients describe their respective desires for Australia. For a room that displayed incredible diversity, I was heartened by the quality of collaboration between scholarship recipients. In the years to come, the lessons that we gained from the session will make us stronger leaders.
