The Scholarship Team for Advice and Review (STAR) is a group of scholarship recipients and alumni that assist Western Chances to achieve its strategic goal of ensuring the organisation remains relevant to young people.

STAR ensure that Western Chances is meeting the needs of young people by;

  • Providing information on the issues most important to young people, particularly in Melbourne's western suburbs, to identify key considerations for the Western Chances Board;

  • Suggesting improvements to and providing constructive criticism on the current scholarship process and Links Program opportunities, in order to assist Western Chances to make informed decisions about the future service model; and

  • Providing opinions on matters as requested by Western Chances.

STAR is not a decision making body of Western Chances. The purpose is to provide advice and information to further Western Chances' decision making.

STAR meet quarterly and discussion at each meeting forms around one of the following topics:

• Youth issues and reach;
• Review of scholarship process and awarded items;
• Review of Links opportunities;
• Western Chances communications; and
• Building alumni

  • Melissa Garwood - Doctorate of Medicine at Melbourne University

  • Jenny Pham Vo - Media at RMIT

  • Julia Truong (Chair and Ambassador) - Owner/Operator of JT. Production Management

  • Adhieu Kuir - Fashion at RMIT

  • Jessica Bonello - Oncology Nurse at Royal Childrens Hospital

  • Peter Deng -  Bachelor of Commerce at Melbourne University

  • Abraham Nyieth - Bachelor of Social Work at RMIT (not pictured)
